~ Burning embers ~

My heart goes out to those affected by the Jasper wildfires, it has been absolutely devastating to hear about the stories of loss so close to home. Breathing in the thick, heavy, acrid smoke and seeing the hazy apocalyptic orange glow of the sky was alarming and worrying to say the least. As the fire crept down the parkway and closer to Banff, a mix of worry, fear, and sorrow filled my mind. These mountain towns are my escapes, my happy places when the city becomes too much, and I can't even begin to comprehend the emotions that are running through the minds of those who call these places home.

I felt compelled to make some pieces that reflected both the wild beauty and astounding devastation created by these flames- the bright orange glow contrasting the black, sooty remains of what was once alive and whole. May the community do what it does best- come together and lift each other up, support each other, and rebuild from what remains. 

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of these pieces will be donated to the Jasper Community Team Society (JCTS). I encourage all who can to support this community in whatever ways you can.
